The faculty aims to prepare specialists having academic education and meeting the state’s needs, implement basic and applied research and experimental development work in philology, economics, management, and informatics sciences at the international level.
The University takes an active part in the development of an open information and knowledge society, is concerned with the creation of moral and material wealth. It also improves reasoning and creative critical thinking tradition in Lithuania. The process of academic education should stress the importance of learning an objective evaluation of all ideas. Students must be taught to relate knowledge obtained from academic subjects. Furthermore, the process of academic education has to reveal ties formed between theoretical methods and practical needs, supply students with methodological knowledge applied in all areas of human activity, skills, and abilities. A graduate must be able to analyse career situations, allocate, formulate, and solve real tasks.
The main research areas the faculty is concerned with are humanities, social sciences, and physical (informatics) sciences. Research in informatics has been carried out for a decade. It is the third research area developed by the faculty. This area is not only a branch of high information technologies. It also influences methods for humanities and social sciences research, and provides modern communication and modelling tools.
