Scientific activity

The researchers of the centre take part in projects and scientific activities.

In 2011-2013, the Centre of Socio-cultural research coordinated a national scientific interdisciplinary project Memory and Identity: Case Study of Multicultural Frontier Communities. Supervisor – Dr. Jurga Jonutytė. Participants: Prof. Dr. Aleksandras Krasnovas, Dr. Dovilė Kulakauskienė, Dr. Lina Būgienė.

In 2010-2012, Prof. Dr. Gabija Bankauskaitė-Sereikienė participated in the EU programme’s Sponsorship for Scientific Activity of Scientists and Other Researchers (General Grant) project

Modern Geolinguistic Research in Lithuania: Point Network Optimisation and Interactive Spread of Dialectal Information (www.tarmes.lt). Supervisor – Prof. Dr. Danguolė Mikulėnienė (Institute of the Lithuanian Language).

In 2011-2012, Dr. Dovilė Kulakauskienė took part in the project Modern Pupils’ Folklore. Supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laimutė Anglickienė (Vytautas Magnus University).

Since 2011, Prof. Dr. (HP) Dalia Štreimikienė and Dr. Ingrida Griesienė have been members of the international project Restructuring of Pro-ecological Workplace (PRORES).

In 2010-2011, the Centre coordinated the scientific project Change in the Concept of Tradition. Supervisor – Dr. Jurga Jonutytė.

In 2008-2012, workers of the Centre (Dr. Dovilė Kulakauskienė and Dr. Jurga Jonutytė) represented Lithuania by participating in COST activities Change in Global Management: Threats and Possibilities.

Scientific research in the Centre of Socio-cultural Research is carried out according to two scientific fields

Scientific research in the field of Humanities:

  • Group of Cognitive Linguistics (supervisor – Prof. Dr. (HP) Eleonora Lassan);
  • Group of Language Signal Processing and Experimental Phonetics (supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vytautas Rudžionis);
  • Group of Philological Research (supervisor – Prof. Dr. Gabija Bankauskaitė-Sereikienė)
  • Group of Sustainable Development (supervisor – Prof. Dr. (HP) Dalia Štreimikienė);
  • Group of Economic Logistic Analysis (supervisor – Prof. Dr. (HP) Stasys Albinas Girdzijauskas);
  • Group of Human Ecology Research (supervisor – Dr. Dovilė Kulakauskienė).

Scientific Research in the field of Social Sciences:

The results of the Centre’s scientific research are integrated into the study process. The students of the Faculty are provided with theoretical and methodical consultations and conditions to get involved with the scientific activity, prepare scientific publications, presentations for conferences, dissertations. The accumulated scientific potential of the Faculty is constantly being integrated into the European Union scientific research programmes and used to develop projects. The scientists of the Centre are members of editorial boards of Lithuanian and international scientific journals, head editors and assistants; they carry out expert activity in various national science institutions.

Prof. Dr. (HP) Dalia Štreimikienė is a member of Lithuanian Association of Economists and a member of International Association for Energy Economics.

Prof. Dr. (H) Eleonora Lassan is a member of the Lithuanian Association of Applied Linguistics.

Prof. Dr. Gabija Bankauskaitė-Sereikienė is an expert of the international database Lituanistika, a member of the Lithuanian Association of Applied Linguistics, a member of the Lithuanian Teachers’ Association of the Lithuanian Language and Literature.

Dr. Viktorija Makarova is a member of the Lithuanian Association of Applied Linguistics.

The Centre of Socio-cultural Research organises seminars and invites both Lithuanian and international scientists to participate, organised national and international conferences together with the departments of the Faculty, publishes monographs, teaching and methodical books, articles cited in international, including ISI, databases.

On April 23, 2013, the first national conference Sustainable Development of Lithuania was organised.

The researchers of the Centre coordinate the publication of two Faculty's scientific journals: Transformations in Business & Economics (TIBE) and Respectus Philologicus (REPHI)

This is a journal that is published in English in the field of Social Sciences; since 2005, it has been included into the international Thomson Scientific database ISI WOS (Web of Science). Senior editor – Prof. Dr. (HP) Dalia Štreimikienė (Vilnius University, Lithuania). Publishers-partners: University of Latvia and Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic). The journal is also cited in international databases JEL (JEL on CD, e-JEL), IBSS, SCOPUS, EBSCO, Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities.

This is a serial international scientific journal of Central and Eastern European region published in four languages, i.e. English, Lithuanian, Polish and Russian. The main focus of the journal is the research of grammar, semantics, semiotics, syntax (H 352), general and comparative literature, literary criticism and literary theory (H 390). Senior editor – Prof. Dr. (HP) Eleonora Lassan (Vilnius University, Lithuania). Publisher-partner - Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce (Poland). The journal is cited in international scientific databases ULRICHS, Linguistic Bibliography Online, EBSCO, MLA, Index Copernicus, CEEOL, Lituanistika.

History

In 2002, April, having evaluated the traditions and experience of different scientific fields developed in the Faculty as well as the demand of complex scientific research in the Lithuanian market and the necessity to lean towards the unified European Research Area priorities in the European Union, Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities established a Socio-cultural Research Institute. The head at that time was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Danutė Balšaitytė.

In 2003, Prof. Dr. (HP) Remigijus Čiegis overtook the position of the head of the Institute; Business Ethics Centre joined the Institute.

In 2004, January, the Institute was reorganised into the Centree of Socio-cultural Research.

Nuo 2010 m. rugsėjo mėn. Centrui vadovauja prof. dr. Gabija Bankauskaitė-Sereikienė.

The Centre carries out scientific research which satisfies the Faculty’s scientific and study directions and the science priorities of the State of Lithuania and European Union; moreover, the Centre carries out scientific research at the interface of several scientific fields or directions, carries out methodical work, provides educational services. The members of the Centre participate in the organisation of the University’s and the Faculty’s scientific publications, science, methodical, teaching and other literature, organise  scientific conferences, seminars, other scientific and scientific-methodical articles and reports for conferences, consult students and lecturers in terms of annual essays, final theses (both BA and MA level), PhD theses; the Centre provides the students of the Faculty with theoretical and methodical consultations, creates conditions for them to get involved into the scientific activity.
